Aly & AJ, put on a spectacular performance at Roadrunner in Boston with opening support from artist Amanda Shires on The Silver Deliverer Tour.

You may know and recognize the sisters from their on-screen appearances on Disney Channel in 2000s hits like Cow Belles and Phil of the Future. However, many fans have been following this iconic pop duo and their music career from back in 2005 when they released their first album, Into the Rush, with Hollywood Records. Fast forward to 2007, the pair released Insomniatic, which included their most listened-to song to this day, “Potential Breakup Song”. The track has amassed over 195 million streams on Spotify, more than some major artists have.
This year, the two have released multiple pieces of work including two albums, Silver Deliverer and 20 Years of Into the Rush (Live), a new EP called More Silver, and their newest single, “What It Feels Like”.

During their set this past weekend, we got to hear the throwbacks and a lot of their newer music too. The night started out with a lot of tracks including “Take Your Time”, “Dandelions” and “Next to Nothing” from their newest album, Silver Deliverer. About a third through the set, Aly & AJ brought out opener, Amanda Shires, for a collaborative performance of their songs “Blue Dress” and “Lasso”. Shires played her fiddle while the sisters showed off their whimsical harmonies, filling the air with blissful sounds.
Later in the night, the sisters played “Sirens”, a song that represents a very personal experience they had with the fragility of life. A heaviness filled the air as Aly explained its inspiration, a moment when the lives of the artists were in danger during a mass shooting event near their location after a performance back in 2022. You can feel the emotion behind the lyrics, turning attention to gun violence in the US and its impact on everyday lives, “...it could have been me, it could have been sirens over my body, it could have been me…”. The artists have since advocated for reform and continue to share their story to bring awareness to the reality we are facing here in America.

On the lighter side, fans got to hear some of their class songs from their earlier days including “Rush”, “Chemicals React”, and “Something More”. Ecstatic fans screamed the lyrics to these tunes at the top of their lungs. Some individuals were even dancing their hearts out at the back of the crowd as if no one were watching. The night ended with an encore, which of course had to be the one and only “Potential Breakup Song”. You could see the anticipation on the faces in the crowd as the two walked back out on stage and the introductory notes to the track began. A great night for nostalgia, womanhood and the presence of hope and inspiration for the future.
